Ethernet Adapters (3)

LKG-6100 features Wake-on-Lan but having trouble finding the pins to connect it to the WOL connector on motherboard.

The LKG-6100 is a new model and does not use the cable for Wake-on-Lan. The wake-on-lan function is going thru the PCI bus.

For your gigabit network card LKG-6100, does it auto-detect 1000mbps?

The LKG-6100 Gigabit network card has auto-detection on the speed. You can force it to connect to a specific speed by changing the settings. If you let the card to detect it, it will try to get the highest speed possible.

To utilize the full speed of the gigabit network adapter, you need
to have gigabit connections (Switch or Router).

What is the maximum length of Category 3, 4 or 5 twisted pair cable that can be used between computers and other devices such as hubs, switches, other computers, etc.?

The maximum length of Category 3, 4 or 5 twisted pair cable that can be used between computers and other devices on a network is 100 meters or about 328 feet. Keep in mind that this is a theoretical limit. Usually, you will want to keep the distance between devices well below the limit.

Ethernet Switches (2)

What is a Ethernet Switch?

A switch connects all computer LAN connections into one device like a hub. Unlike hubs, switches can run at full-duplex mode. This means that the computer and switch can both transmit and receive simultaneously. The biggest difference between a switch and a hub is that when a computer transmits a digital signal to a hub, it’s then sent to all ports attached to that hub, whereas a switch will send it only to the specific port where the destination MAC address is located.

KVM Switches (19)

What type of DVI connector do I have?

Compare your display card connector to the picture.

In what case do I need AC adapter for LKV-S02SK or LKV-S04SK? What’s the spec for the AC adapter?

Although AC Adapter is not required to make the kvm switch work properly, we want to provide the option to add AC Adapter in some cases when mouse and keyboard does not respond when booting up the 1st system. Usually rebooting the system will activate the mouse and keyboard. This may be due to timing of power drawn from PS/2 keyboard and mouse. As long as the 1st system is on, you should have no problem detecting mouse and keyboard when booting up the remaining systems.

Another scenario is when using the KVM for video sharing only. Normally the LKV-S02SK / LKV-S04SK gets power from any PS2 connections. If no keyboard or mouse connection to the KVM, a power adapter is needed.

Here’s the spec for the AC power adapter for LKV-S02SK and LKV-S04SK.
Part# LKV-DC9-120-5A

Output: DC 9V 500mA
Polarity: (-)—(o—(+)

What is IP-based KVM Switch?

IP-based KVM switch allows you to control one or many computers locally at the server site or remotely via the internet using a standard browser. You can securely gain BIOS level access to systems for maintenance, support, or failure recovery over the internet. Communication is secure via SSL encryption. Use in conjunction with a KVM switch for multiple-server access.

I have 4port DVI KVM Switch. When I turn on PC2 while the KVM is on PC1, the display becomes garbled.

Booting the 2nd system while working with the first one may be possible, this power up sequence is not suggested for all the 4port DVI KVM switches. The correct way is to power the first system and wait until the OS is fully booted, then switch to the next port and power up the next system.

Routers (5)

I have LKR-604 router set up at home. How can I access to my home network remotely?

The firewall is blocking all the incoming access by default. If you are trying to access something behind the router through the internet, you need to setup the virtual server to enable the access.

You can do that by going into the router’s configuration page.
1. Go to Advanced Setup | NAT | Virtual Server.
2. Add the IP of the system that you want access and the port #.
3. Click “Apply” to save settings.

I have LKR-604 router and believe WAN port might be bad. How to trouble shoot WAN port?

You can test the wan port connection by making wan port connect to port 4 and have one of your system connect to port 1. Setup the router to use Dynamic IP for wan port, and then check the status page of the router’s configuration. If the wan port gets IP from the router, the wan port is good. Also try to ping the wan port IP address. If can’t ping, the wan port may be bad.

Can I change the IP address on my router LKR-604?

Yes, you can change the LAN IP at the router configuration webpage. Go to Advance Setup and modify the LAN IP address and save settings. Please check the package manual P.21 for details on Advance Setup.

How to reset LKR-604 to factory default settings?

Use a pin-shape item to push the reset button for 3 seconds on rear panel of the router. You can reset to factory settings while all data and power cables connected to the router.

I can’t link my cable modem to the LKR-604 router. Our network end works fine but can’t go online.

Please try the steps shown below. The sequence is very important.

1. Power off the cable modem, router and computer.
2. Unplug the power cord from the back of the cable modem.
3. Unplug the power cord from the router.
4. Wait 30 seconds then reconnect the power to the cable modem
5. Wait 2 minutes to allow the modem to connect. The modem connection lights will be solid.
6. Reconnect the power to the router
7. Wait 2 minutes to allow the router to connect.
8. Turn on your computer
9. Attempt to surf the internet to verify connectivity
